Product formation in rhodopsin by fast hydrogen motions.
The photochemical cis-trans isomerization of retinal in rhodopsin is investigated by structure sampling and excited state QM/MM trajectories with surface hopping. The calculations uncover the motions responsible for photoproduct formation and elucidate the reasons behind the efficient photoisomerization in the primary event of visual transduction.
متن کاملHydrogen Atom in Strong Magnetic Fields: Regular and Irregular Motions
The stochastic transition in the classical Hamilton System describing the hydrogen atom in a strong magnetic field is observed by means of Poincaré mappings, and discussed in the framework of the gênerai theory of tori destruction. The existence of the third intégral in the regular région below the critical energy can explain the exponentially small séparations at avoided crossings of the energ...
متن کاملProbing coupled motions in enzymatic hydrogen tunnelling reactions.
Much work has gone into understanding the physical basis of the enormous catalytic power of enzymes over the last 50 years or so. Nevertheless, the detailed mechanism used by Nature's catalysts to speed chemical transformations remains elusive. DHFR (dihydrofolate reductase) has served as a paradigm to study the relationship between the structure, function and dynamics of enzymatic transformati...
متن کاملA Runaway Red Supergiant in M31
A significant percentage of OB stars are runaways, so we can expect a similar percentage of their evolved descendants to also be runaways. However, recognizing such stars presents its own set of challenges, as these older, more evolved stars will have drifted farther from their birthplace, and thus their velocities might not be obviously peculiar. Several Galactic red supergiants (RSGs) have be...
متن کاملSupersoft X-ray Sources in M31
We report on luminous supersoft X-ray sources (SSSs) in M31. In a survey which was most sensitive to soft sources in four 8×8 regions covered by Chandra’s ACIS-S S3 CCD, we find 33 SSSs that appear to belong to M31. Two of these were first identified as SSSs through ROSAT observations. Two SSSs may be identified with symbiotics, and 2 with supernova remnants. SSSs in the disk are clustered near...
